Can You Find Your Institute’s Certificate of Accreditation?

Students in training programs have a vested interest in their program’s accreditation status. They are encouraged to visit our agency’s web site at www.abapinc.org as well as the web site of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors--www.aspa-usa.org. These sites articulate accreditation practices which can be used as “benchmarks” for evaluating one’s own program in terms of integrity, accountability, safeguards of student rights, provisions for student input, ethics, educational objectives, faculty credentials, aspects of classroom instruction, application and graduates requirements. ABAP, Inc. accredits the training programs of institutes granting certificates or diplomas in psychoanalysis. Accredited programs are encouraged to state in published documents that they are accredited. Accredited programs also receive a Certificate of Accreditation which the institute is encouraged to display in a public place such as a hallway, classroom, or library. Can you find this Certificate hanging in your institute? If not, ask your faculty or administration about its whereabouts.

Please contact the Office of Accreditation for more information about the agency’s spring meetings or about how your institute can ensure integrity in psychoanalytic education and training through becoming accredited.
